You are invited to join the weekly Nuremberg Research Seminar in Economics on 1 December 2021, from 13.15 to 14.45 pm. The seminar will be held via ZoomInes Helm (LMU Munich) will be talking about „Displacement Effects in Manufacturing“.

More information can be found here:

We investigate the sources of wage losses from displacement in the manufacturing sector. Manufacturing establishments traditionally employed low- and high-wage workers in similar proportions and paid substantial wage premiums to both types of workers. With progressing structural change manufacturing jobs have disappeared, particularly so for low-wage workers. Decomposing wage losses, we document that displaced low-wage workers tend to fall down the establishment premium ladder, while high-wage workers face losses in match quality. With structural change, wage losses and losses in establishment premiums have increased, especially so for low-wage workers, in part because they are increasingly forced to switch to low-knowledge service jobs where establishment premiums are low.
