The seminar will be held in room LG 0.423Jamel Saadaoui (University of Strasbourg) will be talking about „Flat or not flat? The role of wage bargaining institutions in the EU Phillips curve”.

More information can be found here:

In the EU, the heterogeneity of wage bargaining institutions may play a crucial role in the wage dynamics across countries. Using regional NUTS-2 data, we show that the wage Phillips curve flattens when unemployment is high in economies where the sectoral or cross-sectoral levels play a role in the collective wage bargaining. When the economy deteriorates, wages fall less in parts of the economy covered by collective wage agreements negotiated by trade unions at a centralized level than in economies with bargaining fully decentralized within companies. On the whole, these evidence indicate that European monetary authorities should consider the heterogeneity of wage bargaining institutions.
